The Curriculum for Wales has a great emphasis on outdoor learning and using the outdoor environment, but how do you translate that into classroom learning? Nature days can provide INSET training to help integrate the outdoors into your school’s offer.

An in-depth look at the plants found in the bog habitat and how they are adapted to live in these harsh conditions. An interactive activity into how trees work and succession of a pond habitat by plants. Discover the many methods of seed dispersal. Can be combined with an investigation into plant growth.

The students undertake their first investigation from stating a hypothesis and identifying the correct environment to undertake the data collection, to collecting data and analysing the results. The whole investigation is undertaken in one day with details of follow up investigations to take place back at school.

Crymlyn Bog NNR is a fantastic place to explore flight. We not only have the amazing array of reedbed birds to listen to and spot but also the pond containing the nymphs of dragonflies, beetles and midges.

A number of days can be undertaken at Crymlyn National Nature Reserve. They include, An Introduction to Ecology, Undertaking an Investigation or the History of Crymlyn.

Nature Days provides weekly Forest School sessions for Knelston Primary School children within the school’s grounds. This service is available to other local schools in their own grounds or by visiting a local woodland on Gower.

Bring the Celts to life in your own school grounds. The students will design, plan and find the resources to build their own model of a Celtic roundhouse. Using authentic material and techniques they will weave the wattle and daub walls and create a defended water tight dwelling, painted with Celtic designs.

A number of habitats are visited, bog, woodland, reedbed and pond. The plants and animals found within each are studied and their adaptations to life in each habitat explored, also an introduction to food chains and food webs, adaptation, competition and predation is included.

A number of ready made activties for any year group to take part in a number of loctions on Gower. Orienteering,team building games, Knight adventure, fossil hunting, environmental art and crafts, nature awareness walks, exploring churches.

Students will explore the harsh conditions found on an exposed rocky shore and role play how animals cope with them. Discover the erosional landscape features of a coastal environment and how they are created.
