Sustainable energy

This field trip involves the students undertaking data collection which provides the background details for a debate on alternative energy generation and its impact on the environment.

A detailed analysis of the plants and animals of the site is undertaken and a role play into the uses of the site at present. The archaeological remains are located and then measurements of wind speed and direction are taken. Also a measure of the energy potential of the river to identify its potential energy provision. All the information gathered is then used in a debate as to whether the site is appropriate for the location of wind turbines. This helps the children debate the pros and cons of alternative energy generation and allows them to visualise the impacts on their local area.
